Hialeah pair arrested with more than 50 pieces of stolen mail, police say

Two people were arrested Sept. 20 after Hialeah officers stopped them riding an electric bicycle near West 15th Court and West 53rd Terrace and said the pair appeared to be casing homes. Police recovered a bag and a backpack containing at least 50 pieces of mail belonging to 35 people, including credit and debit cards and one health-care debit card. Officers placed the recovered items into two evidence bags — one holding 34 pieces tied to 22 people and the other holding 16 pieces tied to 13 people. Ernesto Javier Capoche and Mayleen Montane were charged with unlawful possession of personal identification, a third-degree felony; Hialeah police handled the investigation and no federal charges have been filed so far. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
