Hialeah man arrested after teen alleges beating with extension cord

Hialeah police arrested a 31-year-old man Sunday after a 14-year-old boy reported being struck with an extension cord and choked earlier that morning. Officers said the boy woke about 9 a.m., watched videos on his phone and told the man he was hungry before the alleged assault. Responding just after noon to a reported domestic battery, investigators noted bruising and marks on the boy’s neck, back, arm and thigh; a special victims detective later took his statement and the youth was taken to Nicklaus chldren’s Hospital. Jail records show Alex Antonio Romero Padilla faces one count of aggravated chld abuse with great bodily harm/torture; the case remains under investigation. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
