HCFR contains multi-acre woods fire near Gause Road in Loris

Horry County Fire Rescue contained a woods fire in Loris that burned several acres and prompted road restrictions. HCFR says crews responded at about 7:13 p.m. to reports of a woods fire in the area of Gause Road near Highway 139 and worked actively to contain the blaze.
Initial estimates put the fire at roughly five acres. Lanes of traffic on Gause Road were blocked while firefighters operated on scene. HCFR reported the blaze grew slightly and was fully contained by roughly 9:20 p.m., with the burned area later estimated at about six acres.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission assisted by providing two plows to cut firebreaks around the burned areas, and the Loris Fire Department also assisted HCFR during suppression efforts. According to HCFR, crew members remained on scene monitoring the perimeter after containment; residents and passersby in the area may continue to see smoke and possible flareups for an extended time.
At this time the incident is listed as contained and under continued monitoring by Horry County Fire Rescue. No additional injuries, cause determinations, arrests, or further investigatory claims were reported in the informing agency release.
