The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office ended its use of Flock Safety automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras in Hamilton County, Ohio. The office announced the termination after earlier suspending the partnership in early September.

Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey paused the Flock network on Sept. 3 while seeking clearer controls over who could access locally collected data, how information was shared and where it was stored. The county had partnered with Flock since 2022; a grant initially funded 25 cameras and the network grew to 75 cameras through agreements with townships and municipalities.

The sheriff’s office said internal audits found no misuse of the system within Hamilton County but cited resident concerns about outside access and data sharing in deciding to terminate the program. The office said it will inform residents of any future use of similar technology.
