A reported gas odor prompted an evacuation at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas on Oct. 2. Dallas Fire-Rescue received the call at about 3:15 p.m. and confirmed an odor inside a classroom.

School administrators cleared students and staff from the building while firefighters isolated the affected classroom and shut off gas to that room. Atmos Energy was notified and hazmat units investigated.

By 4:10 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue hazmat personnel concluded there was no active gas leak and allowed occupants to return to finish the school day. DFR stated the odor originated in a chemistry lab and said they believed a valve had been left on in the room.
