Fort Myers driver arrested after DUI chain-reaction crash at South Tamiami Trail and Daniels Parkway

A multi-vehicle crash in Fort Myers left several cars damaged after a driver allegedly struck a vehicle while driving under the influence at the intersection of South Tamiami Trail and Daniels Parkway, the Lee County Sheriff's Office reported.

According to deputies, the crash occurred just after 4 p.m. when a 57-year-old Fort Myers man crashed into another vehicle, triggering a chain reaction that damaged two additional cars ahead of him. Deputies said the driver then attempted to leave the scene by driving through a nearby Mobil gas station before being stopped and taken into custody.

The sheriff’s office reported that a breathalyzer administered to the suspect showed a blood alcohol content of .160, about twice Florida’s legal limit, and that he was arrested at the scene. Deputies noted this was not his first DUI-related arrest, citing a 2014 arrest for driving under the influence and a hit-and-run.

Lee County deputies processed the arrest and the man was booked into the Lee County Jail; agency records indicate he was released the following day. Allegations above are those reported by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. No information on any criminal charges filed in court, injuries, or traffic citations was provided in the agency report supplied.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
