Former Offender Now Assists Authorities in Detecting Card-Skimming Devices
A Miami-Dade man who formerly made and installed card skimmers is now working with local and federal law enforcement, including the U.S. Secret Service, to help detect the devices. He said his criminal activity began as a teenager with substance sales and later included Medicare fraud that led to a conviction and prison time. After release he ran a phone repair shop and admitted he manufactured and placed skimmers nationwide to capture bank card information and withdraw cash. Authorities are now using his technical knowledge to locate skimmers and prevent financial theft as he collaborates with agencies on investigations and detection efforts.
