Florida Medicaid Funds Misused for Political Purposes
A state grand jury report found that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' administration diverted $10 million from a Medicaid settlement to two nonprofit groups, which then used the funds to support political committees aligned with DeSantis' agenda. The report, obtained by CBS Miami, did not find sufficient evidence for criminal charges. The misuse of funds included splitting $8.5 million between Secure Florida’s Future and Save Our Society From, and then distributing $9 million to the Republican Party of Florida and $1.23 million to the Florida Freedom Fund. The misuse of funds ended with Keep Florida Clean, a political action committee, sending money to oppose two ballot measures: a constitutional right to abortion and recreational Canna legalization. The report's findings were first published by CBS Miami on Wednesday evening. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
