Florida City Commission ousts city manager in 3-2 vote
The Florida City Commission voted 3-2 Tuesday evening to terminate City Manager James Poag, with the dismissal taking effect immediately. Mayor Charlotte Thompson, Vice Mayor Ronda Cobb and Commissioner Trina Wilborn voted in favor; Commissioners James Gold and Richard Brown opposed the action. The city provided no reason for the termination in information released Wednesday. Poag had been appointed city manager in December 2025 and was responsible for daily operations and implementing the City Charter and council directives; his bio lists more than 20 years of government experience and advanced degrees including a doctorate in organizational leadership.
