FIU seniors help analysts identify suspects in World Cup human trafficking probe

During this summer’s World Cup, two Florida International University undergraduates served as intelligence analysts and aided Miami‑Dade prosecutors and partners in gathering data on suspected human traffickers. The students, seniors at FIU’s Jack Gordon Institute, analyzed patterns and behaviors to help investigators and prosecutors build cases. Their work contributed to operations that led to more than 20 human trafficking arrests during the event. The State Attorney’s Office and partner agencies carried out the arrests; the cases will proceed through prosecution and further investigative steps as needed. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
