A head-on collision in Cross Lanes left a woman hospitalized and a man in custody after deputies say his vehicle crossed the centerline. The crash occurred on Nightingale Lane in Kanawha County on Saturday afternoon; deputies reported the wreck to have happened at about 2 p.m.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the man’s vehicle crossed a double yellow line and struck the other car. Emergency crews from the state police, the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority and the Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department responded and transported the woman from the second vehicle to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The sheriff’s office arrested the driver identified by deputies as Joshua McCallister. He was charged with driving left of center, driving without insurance, driving without a motor vehicle inspection sticker and driving with defective equipment. The agency said he could face additional charges as the investigation continues.

Allegations reported by deputies state that crossing the double yellow line caused the collision; those allegations are the basis for the charges. Current documented case status is that McCallister is in custody and charged; the investigation and any potential additional charges are ongoing and being handled by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
