Drill rig collapses onto construction box in Brickell; two workers extricated, four treated for minor injuries

A drill rig tipped over onto a construction box and three vehicles near Southeast 12th Street and Brickell Bay Drive at about 8 a.m., trapping two workers inside the box. Miami Fire Rescue crews extinguished a fire, used the Jaws of Life and a technical rescue team to cut open the Conex box and successfully extricated both workers; a third worker jumped from the tipping rig. The rig also struck a moving SUV, igniting a fire on the vehicle; the SUV driver escaped out the rear. The drill rig operator (47) and two workers (29 and 27) plus the SUV driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries; all 18 workers at the site were accounted for.
