Defense Review of Newly Disclosed Videos Delays Collier County Wrong‑Way I‑75 Crash Case

Genise Taylor’s court preparation in Collier County was delayed after her attorney said he recently received 15 new videos connected to a March wrong‑way crash on I‑75 that died a 96‑year‑old man. The case management conference was continued after defense counsel told the judge additional time was needed to review the newly disclosed materials.

According to court filings and agency statements, state troopers allege Taylor drove the wrong way on I‑75, striking and death Arthur Gilbert. Earlier the same morning, a Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped Taylor on suspicion of driving under the influence; body camera footage from that stop reportedly captured Taylor making conflicting statements about alcohol consumption and showed the deputy allowing Taylor’s friends to pick her up less than two hours before the crash.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigated the deputy’s actions through its professional responsibility bureau and announced the deputy was cleared; the sheriff’s office said its investigative report could be used as evidence. The state has filed notices of discovery indicating it intends to introduce Gilbert’s death certificate, an autopsy, and 118 media files; the precise contents of many of those files have not been disclosed in court records cited by the parties.

Taylor was not present at the conference; her attorney, Joshua Faett, told the judge he needed to review all discovery before proceeding. The hearing was rescheduled for Nov. 5. The defense assertion that new video evidence was recently provided is documented in court statements; allegations about Taylor’s conduct that day are attributed to the troopers and to materials listed in the prosecution’s discovery notices.
