Daughter of retired Miami firefighter to join department as she graduates from academy
Giuliana Gomez is set to graduate Friday from the City of Miami Fire Rescue Training Center and will join the same department where her father served for 32 years. Her father, retired assistant fire chief Arturo Gomez, was on duty in Miami on Sept. 11, 2001, and deployed days later with Florida Task Force Two to Ground Zero, spending about two and a half weeks searching the rubble. He retired in 2024 after serving as chief of training and has spoken of helping recover fallen New York City firefighters during that deployment. The graduation Friday begins Giuliana’s career as a first responder in the City of Miami Fire Department.
