The Horry County coroner’s office has identified the man who was died after being struck by a vehicle in Myrtle Beach on May 27, 2023. Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said the collision occurred at about 10:30 p.m. near North Kings Highway, and the victim has been named as William Griffith, who was 62 at the time of his death.

According to the coroner’s account, Griffith was hit by a car at around 10:30 p.m. on May 27, 2023. Willard provided the identification details and noted that Griffith had moved to Myrtle Beach from Louisa, Kentucky around 2018. The coroner’s office completed its identification work in 2026 and released the finding through its office.

Willard credited assistance from genealogists Dena Chasten and Chief Mike Fanning of the Pawleys Island Police Department in confirming the man’s identity. The published item does not provide additional investigative details, charges, or traffic findings, and it does not report any arrests or case resolutions.

At this time the only documented action is the coroner’s formal identification of the decedent. No medical-legal opinions, cause of death determination beyond the crash, or subsequent law-enforcement conclusions are reported in the coroner’s release.
