Coral Gables officers train on how to stop and access Waymo robotaxis
Waymo’s autonomous fleet is expanding in South Florida, and local first responders are receiving hands-on instruction on how to communicate with, access, disable and move driverless vehicles during emergencies. Coral Gables Police participated in training to learn techniques for entering and deactivating the cars so officers, firefighters and paramedics can act quickly when minutes matter. Several South Florida agencies are taking part as Waymo engages first responders ahead of increased deployment on local streets. The trainings are ongoing as agencies prepare for more autonomous vehicles in the region.
