Cargo jet overruns runway at Miami International, crashes into vehicles; at least five dead
A cargo plane operated for Amazon’s Prime Air overshot a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, struck several vehicles, came to rest in an adjacent field and burst into flames, kll at least five people and injuring five others. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said more than 60 units responded; three of the injured were taken to a trauma center in critical condition. The incident prompted a roughly three-hour ground stop and the closure of all four runways; two runways have since reopened but airport officials warn traveler impacts may continue for a day or two and urged passengers to check with their airlines. The National Transportation Safety Board arrived Monday to begin its investigation and plans a news conference Monday afternoon; the airline operating the flight, 21 Air for Prime Air, said it is cooperating with authorities and offered condolences.
