Brooksville deputies shoot armed man during domestic disturbance call
Hernando County deputies shot an armed suspect on a Brooksville front porch during a domestic disturbance call on Sunday afternoon, Sheriff Al Nienhuis said. The incident occurred about 2:37 p.m. on Audubon Drive, south of State Road 50, after a call reporting a violent domestic situation involving three related adults.
According to the sheriff’s preliminary account, two people inside the home identified themselves as victims and locked themselves in a bathroom while speaking with 911 dispatchers. Dispatchers reportedly heard gunfire while still on the line with those callers. When deputies arrived, they encountered the suspect on the front porch; the sheriff stated the suspect allegedly fired toward deputies.
Deputies returned fire and the suspect was struck. Nienhuis said three deputies discharged their weapons and that no deputies were injured. The sheriff did not release the suspect’s condition that evening, and the involved deputies’ names were not released.
Investigators secured the scene, called in the SWAT team and hostage negotiators, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct the statutory investigation into the deputy-involved shooting. Officials characterized the incident as isolated and said there was no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains ongoing.
