Police in Dallas arrested a suspect in a 1993 death that occurred inside a Haskell Avenue residence. Tommie Davis, then 55, was found murdered on May 18, 1993; investigators documented she had been beaten with a board and slashed with a knife.

Detectives initially had limited leads, noting damage to the front door and some missing items. More than 30 years later, reinvestigation and additional forensic testing identified blood on an interior wall that did not belong to Davis. That blood matched a name linked to Tommy Lynn Jones, which investigators determined was an alias for Gary Len Ross.

Ross, 56, was arrested Friday and charged with capital murder. The Dallas Police Department’s CAPERS Unit led the reinvestigation and credited persistent detective work; the agency described the arrest as part of its effort to pursue long-unsolved cases.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
