Arrest made after missing 19-year-old found dead in Collier hit-and-run case

Florida Highway Patrol announced an arrest in the investigation of a Collier County hit-and-run that left 19-year-old Landin Ahrens dead.

Troopers said a bicyclist was discovered on the grass shoulder of State Road 29, south of State Road 82, on August 17. Ahrens was later identified by his family. Investigators began looking for a Dodge pickup with damaged headlights.

FHP said troopers located a 2014 Dodge pickup in an Estero residential community. Investigators reported that damage to the vehicle was consistent with the crash and that both headlamps had been replaced afterward.

Troopers identified the accused driver as Pedro Lopez Fernando, 42, of Immokalee. He was booked into the Collier County Jail on allegations of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and tampering with evidence. FHP said the investigation remains active.
