Advocates Urge Doral to End Police Role in Federal Immigration Enforcement
Former lawmakers and immigrant rights advocates gathered outside Doral City Hall Tuesday to press the city to terminate its 287(g) agreement, which allows local police to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Doral officials have said the city had no choice but to sign the pact; protesters say the agreement has produced fear in the largely foreign‑born community. Residents and business owners have posted about ICE operations on social media, and some merchants reported sales drops of as much as 70% that they attribute to customers avoiding public spaces. Organizers say the decline in street and storefront activity reflects broader concern about immigration enforcement in Doral; the 287(g) program is also active in other South Florida municipalities.
