Activists Urge Doral Officials to End 287(g) Partnership with ICE

A group of South Florida Democratic leaders and community members gathered outside Doral City Hall Tuesday to demand the city withdraw from its 287(g) agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Protesters said the partnership has increased fear among residents and harmed local businesses, and argued rescinding the agreement would help rebuild trust between the community and local police, while noting federal immigration operations could still occur in Doral. They urged Mayor Christi Fraga and the City Council to reverse a unanimous April 2025 vote that authorized the local policing partnership. Former congressman Joe Garcia and South Miami Mayor Javier Fernández spoke at the event, criticizing Doral’s decision and pointing to municipalities that have not entered into 287(g) agreements.
