74-year-old woman arrested after Hialeah crash that sent motorcyclist to trauma center

A crash just before 1 p.m. in Hialeah left a motorcyclist ejected and injured, and police say a 74-year-old driver then fled the scene. Hialeah police say Maria Theresa Contreras, of Miami Gardens, was driving a black Chevrolet S-an undisclosed area and turned left onto West 10th Avenue, colliding with a motorcyclist traveling east through a steady green light. The rider suffered injuries to his arms and left leg, was designated a trauma alert by Hialeah Fire Rescue medics, taken by ground to Goodlet Park and then airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center. Police say Contreras left without providing information or rendering aid; she was arrested Tuesday and faces one count of leaving the scene of a crash with no serious injury, and the investigation is ongoing. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
