72-year-old arrested after bat used in southwest Miami-Dade road rage altercation
A 72-year-old man was arrested Thursday after deputies say he struck another motorist with a baseball bat during a road rage confrontation in southwest Miami-Dade. A deputy was dispatched at about 4:52 p.m. to reports of a fight near Southwest 147th Avenue and Southwest 104th Street; deputies say both drivers exited their vehicles and the suspect approached the other man carrying a bat and swung, striking him. The victim told investigators he responded by punching the suspect twice, knocking him to the ground; the suspect gave a similar account. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and both men declined medical treatment. Investigators identified the 72-year-old as the primary aggressor and charged him with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon; he was taken into custody and faces prosecution. All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
