28-year-old West Palm Beach man died in downtown hit-and-run; driver not identified
A 28-year-old West Palm Beach man was found dead in the roadway on South Olive Avenue in downtown West Palm Beach after a hit-and-run crash, police say. The man was discovered around 1:50 a.m. on July 6; an electric scooter was found nearby. Investigators report the driver involved left the scene without stopping to help or reporting the collision.
According to the West Palm Beach Police Department, officers responded to the scene and investigators have been working the case since the early-morning discovery. Family and friends have returned to the crash site to remember the man’s life and to place a memorial sign at the west corner of South Olive Avenue and East Lakewood Road, near where the victim was found.
The allegation that a driver struck the scooter rider and fled the scene comes from investigators; the department has not announced any identification of a suspect or any arrest. Police continue to classify the case as an active hit-and-run death investigation based on their statements that the driver left the scene and that the victim was found deceased.
Anyone with information about the crash or the driver involved is urged by the West Palm Beach Police Department to come forward. No additional charges, injuries to others, motives, or outcomes have been reported by authorities.
