A Scott County case connected to a December 2020 fatal stabbing concluded further action this week when a defendant received a prison term. The case centers on the death of a 64-year-old East Moline man who was found dead at his residence on Dec. 18, 2020; court records and reporting tie two defendants to the investigation and recovery of a vehicle in Davenport.

According to court records, Precious N. Sims, 26, pleaded guilty more than a year ago to armed robbery, a Class X felony. She was sentenced to six years in prison and will serve three years of mandatory supervised release after completing that term. Records show Sims was given credit for time she had already served in the county jail.

Investigators allege that on Dec. 18, 2020, Rodney J. Griffin, 64, of East Moline was found dead by a co-worker who checked on him at his home in the Avenue of the Cities when he did not report for work. The same day, Sims and co-defendant Kerry Clark were found inside of his car in Davenport; officers said they were attempting to abandon the vehicle when they were detained. Clark, 66, later pleaded guilty in June to first-degree murder and received a 20-year prison sentence.

The reported facts specify the charges, guilty pleas, and sentences as recorded in court filings and reporting. At this stage, the publicly documented status includes Sims’ six-year prison sentence with supervised release to follow and Clark’s earlier conviction and 20-year term; no additional arrest or charge information is reported in the available record.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
