Wildwood woman arrested after fleeing officer; Canna found near discarded shoe

A Wildwood woman was arrested after she ran from a police officer during an attempted detention and was later linked to a small bag of Canna found along her flight path. The Wildwood Police Department’s arrest report says officers encountered the woman after a traffic stop on Oak Street and were alerted by another motorist that the woman was involved in a disturbance on Jackson Street.
According to the arrest report, the officer observed the woman yelling at bystanders and attempted to detain her for investigation of a possible assault or battery. The report states she walked away when first told to stop, then fled on command, running through two backyards and onto Pritt Street while ignoring repeated commands to stop. The officer pursued and handcuffed her near the intersection with Stone Street.
While canvassing the route the woman took, officers located one of her black flip-flops near a baggie containing about 2.5 grams of Canna, the report says. The report further documents the woman’s statements during the encounter, including acknowledgments about being arrested “for the weed” and comments about prior contacts with officers. Based on the investigation, she was charged with destroying evidence, resisting an officer without violence, and possession of Canna (under 20 grams) and was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center without bond.
The account in the arrest report attributes the sequence of events and the statements to the officer and the subject; allegations noted in the report are those recorded by the Wildwood Police Department. The case status in the report is that charges were filed and the subject was detained at the county detention center pending further processing.
