Wildwood man arrested after officer stops pickup at restaurant parking lot for cracked windshield

A Wildwood man was arrested after a traffic stop at a restaurant parking lot following an officer’s observations of a vehicle defect and occupant safety issues. Wildwood Police Department records state an officer saw a white Dodge pickup traveling westbound on Huey Street about 12:20 p.m. Saturday and noted the truck had a cracked windshield and that the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. The officer conducted a traffic stop at the Casa Agave Mexican Grill parking lot on S. Main Street.
During the stop, the driver, identified in the arrest report as 28-year-old Gelasio Andres Perez, told police he did not have a driver’s license. The report says Perez told officers he had lived in the United States for four years without a license. The Wildwood Police Department arrested Perez on a charge of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, per the department’s arrest report.
The arrest report documents that Perez, described as a native of Mexico, was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center and was released after posting a $500 bond. The report lists the observed vehicle defects, the officer-initiated stop, the driver’s admission of not holding a license, the specific charge, and the booking and release on bond as the current recorded actions in the case.
