Two people died in two-vehicle crash on SR 60 west of Lake Wales
A two-vehicle collision on State Road 60 near Acuff Road, west of Lake Wales, left two people dead early Thursday morning, Polk County deputies say. Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 4:22 a.m.; investigators confirmed two fatalities from the morning crash. Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased.
The crash involved two vehicles and occurred on the westbound lanes of SR 60. Deputies and crew members worked at the scene to clear wreckage and collect evidence. Westbound SR 60 was closed at the crash site while that work proceeded; eastbound SR 60 remained open to moving traffic.
Investigators have not determined what caused the collision. The agency noted it is unclear how long the westbound lanes would remain shut and did not state whether any additional people were injured in the wreck.
