Two men died when car with stop sign violation strikes vehicle in rural Scott County

Two men died after a head-on collision late Saturday in rural Scott County when a Chevrolet Impala reportedly ran a stop sign and struck a northbound Mazda that had the right of way. The crash occurred on county roads between McCausland and Long Grove just before midnight, according to deputies.
Investigators say the Impala ran a stop sign on 287th Street and struck the Mazda on 210th Avenue. The force of the impact pushed both vehicles off the roadway and onto private property. Deputies and several emergency crews, including a medical helicopter, responded to the scene. Both occupants of the Mazda were pronounced dead at the scene.
Three people in the Impala were transported to a local hospital and were listed as stable after treatment. Crash investigators are continuing to piece together the sequence of events; at this time deputies report the Impala “blew through a stop sign,” which is presented as the agency’s allegation about the vehicle’s actions. The factual, documented outcomes are the two deaths in the Mazda, injuries treated at a hospital, and an ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims. Investigators have not yet announced any criminal charges or a final cause determination as the probe remains active.
