Chicago prosecutors say two men have been charged following a series of violent spa robberies that began in Bucktown on July 17 and continued along North Milwaukee Avenue that same night. Juan Hidalgo, 25, is charged with two counts of armed robbery in connection with the Bucktown incident; prosecutors allege he punched a cleaner, forced victims into a bathroom and took a phone and about $1,200 in cash. Surveillance footage and a photo lineup identified Hidalgo, the detention filing states.
Court records and a detention order by Judge Rivanda Doss Beal tie 26-year-old Gary May Jr. to the later Chicago robbery on North Milwaukee Avenue; prosecutors allege multiple men rushed a spa, restrained employees and stole more than $1,000 in cash and parts of a camera system. May also faces charges in a separate Evanston spa robbery where prosecutors allege use of an employee’s Face ID to access banking information.
Police say other suspects remain at large and continue to investigate. All allegations are from police and court filings; no convictions are indicated in those records.
All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
