Trial testimony details how victim was concealed after death in NoDa

A 20-year-old woman found in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte in 2020 was discovered wrapped in multiple layers of trash bags and duct tape, jurors heard during trial testimony in Mecklenburg County. Testimony presented Monday described how the body was enclosed in successive layers that investigators and medical examiners had to cut through to reach the victim.
Prosecutors introduced autopsy and crime-scene evidence showing extensive binding and wounds across the body. An autopsy technician described the wrapping as so restrictive that opening it consumed an entire shift; investigators also located black trash bags in a defendant’s bedroom and a roll of duct tape on a vehicle door during the same probe. The state’s toxicologist testified that the victim had multiple drugs, including ecstasy, cocaine and Methamp, in her system at death.
Defense attorneys disputed the prosecution’s suggestion that the defendants drugged the victim and pointed to another woman already serving a sentence in the case. The trial record distinguishes allegations from established findings: the testimony documents the condition of the body, toxicology results, and items recovered by investigators, while questions about who administered substances or carried out the death remain contested in court.
The matter is an active criminal trial in Mecklenburg County; jurors have viewed autopsy photos and body-camera material as testimony continues. No convictions or sentencing outcomes were reported in the testimony excerpted for this coverage.
