Sanford investigation underway after shooting at celebration of life injures eight

Sanford police are investigating a shooting that injured eight people during a celebration of life near 10th Street and Poplar Avenue. The Sanford Police Department says the incident occurred Saturday night and that officers responded to a scene that remained taped off for more than 12 hours as investigators processed evidence.
According to police, investigators identified two vehicles of interest, both described as BMW 530 models, and placed at least 43 evidence markers along the sidewalk while examining vehicles with bullet damage. The department is asking the public to review photos or video from the event that might show the drivers of either vehicle and to submit tips to the Sanford Police Department or Crimeline.
Authorities have not released a motive. The Sanford Police Department is seeking help identifying the drivers they believe to be involved and has urged anyone with additional information to come forward. City leaders noted public cooperation is important to resolving the investigation.
At this time police have not announced arrests or charges and describe details about the shooters and the motive as undetermined. Investigators continue forensic work at the scene and are requesting witness media and information to aid identification of suspects and vehicles.
