A man was shot dead at a home in the Nutbush neighborhood of Memphis on Sunday afternoon, and Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers have a man detained in connection with the death. MPD responded to a shooting call at about 3:41 p.m. at a residence on Brookline Road, in a subdivision off Jackson Avenue near the interstate.

Preliminary information from MPD indicates the two men were involved in an altercation prior to the shooting. Officers found the victim at the scene and he was pronounced dead there. The department reports the suspect is currently detained by police.

MPD has characterized the matter as a homicide and said the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. To date the department’s public account lists the location, the approximate call time and that an altercation preceded the shooting; no additional factual findings, charges, or court actions have been reported in the initial release.

Investigators are handling the on-scene response and any follow-up inquiries, and MPD’s statement identifies the incident location in Memphis and the detained individual. As documented by the department, the case remains an active investigation with details being developed by MPD.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
