Pedestrian struck and died by CATS bus in north Charlotte

A 49-year-old woman was died after being struck by a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus in north Charlotte. The collision occurred at about 1:15 p.m. near the North Graham Street, and medics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), the woman had exited the bus and then returned toward it as the vehicle began to leave the stop. CMPD’s preliminary investigation says the pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by the bus. The incident prompted an immediate multiunit response.
CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, Transit Unit and Crime Scene Search responded and worked the scene; the Charlotte Fire Department also assisted. MEDIC personnel responded and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the location. The transit operator’s role and any mechanical or roadway factors remain under investigation by CMPD.
