Ocala, Florida — The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Dontai Lamont Johnson, 37, was indicted on federal charges of distribution and possession with intent to distribute Methamp arising from an alleged July 13, 2026 transaction. The indictment alleges Johnson distributed and possessed 50 grams or more of Methamp; the announcement came from U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.

Court records cited by the Department of Justice show Johnson was previously convicted of second‑degree murder with a deadly weapon in 2017 and released from the Florida Department of Corrections in February 2025. Because of that qualifying prior conviction, the indictment notes a statutory enhanced minimum penalty of 15 years and up to life in federal prison if Johnson is convicted on the charged counts.

Johnson was arrested in the Middle District of Georgia on September 24, 2026, and is currently detained pending resolution of the federal case, the DOJ statement said. The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Marion County Unified Drug Enforcement Strike Team conducted the investigation; the case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg.

The filing is an indictment alleging federal drug offenses and enhanced sentencing exposure based on a prior violent felony, as described in the Department of Justice announcement.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
