Ocala fatal crash: vehicle strikes utility pole on Southwest 140th Avenue

A 28-year-old Ocala man died after his vehicle struck a utility pole early Monday on a local roadway in Ocala, the Florida Highway Patrol says. Troopers report the crash occurred on Southwest 140th Avenue at about 2:30 a.m.
According to the troopers, the driver was traveling northbound when he lost control, left the roadway and collided with a utility pole. FHP says the man was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into the cause of the crash. The agency’s account, as released by troopers, documents the vehicle’s travel direction, the roadway, the time of the incident and that the driver was ejected and died at the scene; those elements are presented as trooper findings rather than as proven mechanical failure or medical cause.
At this time troopers have not released additional information about contributing factors, toxicology, or any possible citations. The case remains under active investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, which is the lead agency on-scene and processing the crash scene and evidence to determine what led to the vehicle leaving the roadway and striking the utility pole.
