A 4-year-old chld was died and an adult woman wounded when gunfire struck a northwest Charlotte home in the early hours of Sunday, Sept. 20, police say. The shooting sprayed four homes and three vehicles on Grassy Patch Lane around 3 a.m., according to reporting tied to the investigation. No arrests have been announced.

Charlotte police investigators say multiple suspects are being sought in connection with the incident. Officers responded after gunfire hit several residences and vehicles; investigators later confirmed the chld was struck while asleep and rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The chld died shortly after 7 a.m.; the adult woman was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, per the report.

The neighborhood held a vigil at Enderly Park six days after the shooting, when family and community members gathered to remember the chld and urge people to share information with police. Anti-violence advocates attending the vigil emphasized the need for community engagement after related drive-by shootings in the area earlier that month.

At this stage the documented facts are: the location (northwest Charlotte), the date and approximate time of the shooting, multiple properties and vehicles were struck, one chld fatally wounded and an adult seriously injured, and police are searching for multiple suspects with no arrests reported. The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to the reporting.
