A motorcyclist from Lake Panasoffkee was died in a collision on County Road 470 in Sumter County after attempting to pass a pickup truck, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. The report says the crash occurred at 2:06 p.m. while both vehicles were traveling westbound on County Road 470 near the County Road 416N intersection.

FHP’s account states the motorcyclist, riding a Yamaha, was following a Ford F-150 driven by a 54-year-old Lake Panasoffkee man. As the vehicles neared the County Road 416N intersection, the motorcyclist moved into a designated passing zone to overtake the truck. The report says the F-150 then began a left turn and crossed into the path of the passing motorcycle, which struck the truck.

Emergency responders transported the rider to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the report notes. The involved drivers’ ages and hometowns as recorded by FHP are included in the agency’s report; other personal identifiers were not provided.
