Man convicted in April 27, 2024 shooting that died a Panama City resident

A Chipley man has been found guilty in connection with a shooting on April 27, 2024, that resulted in the death of a Panama City resident. According to the investigating agency, the incident began during a gathering at the defendant’s residence near Diamond Head Lake when an altercation occurred and a firearm was discharged, striking the decedent, who later died of his injuries.
Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office say the April 27 incident involved the defendant, the decedent from Panama City, and another person at the house identified as a site for fishing and socializing. The agency reported that the defendant produced a firearm during the altercation and fired at the decedent. The defendant was arrested in June 2024 after the sheriff’s office completed its investigation.
A jury returned a verdict finding the defendant guilty of manslaughter with a firearm. Court records show the defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on October 6 before Judge Christopher Patterson.
