Man charged in Mobile woman’s death to face grand jury; bond set at $1M
Jakoby Fowler, a Mobile man, is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Saimara Washington, inside an apartment in Mobile County. Investigators say the shooting occurred after the two returned to the apartment on June 17, 2026, following a stop after work. Police allege the couple watched Netflix, that Fowler became agitated, then grabbed a .40-caliber handgun and shot Washington. Officers found Washington dead in the master bedroom; her autopsy reportedly documented 30 bullet wounds.
Neighbors and other witnesses told investigators they heard arguing followed by multiple loud sounds. A homicide detective testified that Fowler admitted to shooting Washington during questioning. Testimony at a hearing also included family descriptions of a history of violence between the two; a photograph was recovered that investigators say appears to show Fowler choking Washington inside a vehicle.
Fowler’s family said a cousin found him sitting in his car and told police Fowler said, “I f---ed up.” The detective testified Fowler showed no remorse when questioned. Defense attorney Christine Hernandez said the defense’s investigation is continuing and suggested additional factors may explain the incident. Judge Zoghby held Fowler’s bond at $1 million after the homicide detective’s testimony.
Prosecutors from the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office have said the office will seek justice on Washington’s behalf. The case will now proceed to a grand jury. No trial outcome, convictions, motives, injuries beyond documented autopsy findings, or sentencing have been reported at this time.
