Memphis police arrested a man after investigators say he followed and assaulted a woman following a traffic crash and then fired shots at her vehicle. Officers responded to a shots-fired call at Yale Street and Maris Street and spoke with the victim, who reported an earlier collision at Southern Avenue and Hollywood Street with a man driving an older yellow Mustang.

According to the police account, the victim asked the driver, later identified as Travius Robinson, for insurance information. She said Robinson told her he had none and began to follow her. While attempting to evade him she drove into a dead end, where officers say Robinson exited his vehicle, opened her car door and began assaulting her. Detectives say Robinson then produced a firearm and fired shots that struck the front of her vehicle before leaving the scene.

Investigators located photos of the Mustang used in a broadcast and determined the vehicle was registered to Robinson at a Coming Avenue address. While monitoring that location detectives observed Robinson leave in another vehicle and conducted a traffic stop; he was taken into custody and officers reported observing what appeared to be keys to a Mustang and were told the firearm was under the driver’s seat. Robinson was positively identified in a six-person lineup.

Police charged Robinson with attempt first-degree murder and employment of a firearm during the commission of an attempt to commit a dangerous felony. The account and the charges are from Memphis police and investigative records cited by investigators; no court disposition or victim medical details were included in the report.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
