Man arrested after reported shooting, assault in downtown Orlando parking garage near courthouse
A shooting and assault were reported Wednesday in a downtown Orlando parking garage adjacent to the Orange County Courthouse; deputies later arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the incident. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the scene prompted a temporary lockdown of the courthouse as law enforcement searched for the suspect.
Deputies responded to the parking garage just before 11:30 a.m., and a large law enforcement presence was observed outside the courthouse around noon. The Orlando Fire Department, Orlando Police Department and Orange County Sheriff's Office all responded. OCSO said the suspect fled the scene initially; officials later took Kenneth Jerome Logan, Jr., 26, into custody and announced charges around 7:30 p.m.
According to the affidavit cited by deputies, the victim reported entering her vehicle on the fourth floor and discovering the seat had been moved and something in the back seat. She told investigators the suspect had concealed himself in the back seat, exited the vehicle, pointed a handgun at her and fired. The affidavit alleges a second shot was fired, the suspect chased the victim, took her cellphone when she dropped it, pistol-whipped her in the back of the head, held her down while attempting to reload and then fled after throwing something into the vehicle. Deputies said the woman was shot at but was not injured.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office announced the suspect faces multiple counts including attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm (domestic violence) counts, armed burglary of a conveyance with a firearm, robbery with a firearm, aggravated stalking (domestic violence), false imprisonment with a weapon and battery (domestic violence). A judge ordered the defendant to remain in jail without bond, to have no contact with the victim, and to surrender weapons within four hours if released. The relationship between the suspect and the victim has not been confirmed by officials.
