Man arrested after allegedly pointing handgun at cars on West McCormick Road in Apopka

A Lake County man was arrested in Apopka after deputies say he pointed a loaded handgun at passing vehicles while walking in the roadway. Orange County deputies responded to reports of an armed pedestrian on West McCormick Road and located the man in the parking lot of a nearby Circle K the same morning.

According to the arrest report, deputies arrived around 9:28 a.m. and found the subject holding a handgun. The man complied with commands, placed the firearm on the ground and was taken into custody without further incident. A motorist told deputies she was driving to school with her granddaughters when she observed the man aiming a gun at her car at a traffic light, then saw him aim at other drivers before calling 911.

The Sheriff’s Office alleges the man pointed the weapon at vehicles; those allegations are reflected in the charges filed. The suspect faces counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper exhibition of a firearm. Deputies reported the handgun contained one round in the chamber and that the firearm had been reported stolen in Lake County in December 2025.

Per the arrest report, the man claimed he had owned the gun for about two months and said he fired it into the ground several times earlier that day at an unspecified location. The incident remains under the sheriff’s office investigation, and the reported charges are the current documented status.
