Jackson police investigate fatal shooting in gas-station parking lot on Medgar Evers Boulevard

Jackson police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a woman dead in the parking lot of a gas station on Medgar Evers Boulevard. Officers say they responded to reports of an aggravated assault at approximately 7:22 p.m. on Sept. 26 and found a Black female victim lying in the parking lot with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound.
According to the Jackson Police Department, first responders arrived and confirmed the victim was deceased at the scene. Investigators have described the incident as a homicide and said the victim has not yet been publicly identified. The department is treating the scene as an active investigation.
Police are looking for a gray Honda Accord believed to have been occupied by the suspect; the suspect has not been identified, per the agency. Those details are allegations reported by the investigating agency and have not been proven in court. The department has not released information about a weapon recovery, motive, or any arrests.
