Henrico Police are renewing a public appeal in an unsolved double homicide that occurred in February 1998 in the county’s Tuckahoe Magisterial District. Officers responding to a welfare check at a residence on Sleepy Duck Place found two adults shot to death inside the home and a young chld upstairs who was physically unharmed.

According to Henrico Police, the initial response occurred the morning of Feb. 11, 1998, after a daycare worker reported the adult occupant had not dropped off a chld as expected. Officers discovered an unlocked front door and the two victims inside; nothing in the home appeared stolen. Detectives have long investigated leads and followed up through the Criminal Investigations Section.

The Henrico Police Cold Case Review Team says investigators ruled out an initial “murder for hire” theory and now believe the primary target was one of the adults in the residence; the other person was at the scene and also died. Investigators report the shootings were carried out in an execution-style manner and indicate a threat tied to a domestic court date scheduled the day after the killings is a focus of their inquiry.

The case remains an active cold case. Henrico Police Cold Case detectives continue to ask anyone with information to contact their Cold Case Review Team or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. No arrests or charges have been announced in connection with the 1998 incident.
