Groveland brothers' dispute leads to rifle shots; suspect arrested after SWAT response

A dispute between two brothers in Groveland escalated into a shooting at a residence on State Road 33, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say the incident began as a verbal argument between two adult brothers over an allegation of theft. When the argument intensified, the victim threw a ceramic bowl at the suspect, which deputies report preceded the suspect retrieving a rifle and firing multiple rounds toward the victim.
Lake County deputies responded to a reported shooting at the residence in Groveland at approximately 12:18 p.m. The preliminary investigation showed several rounds struck the victim’s residence; the sheriff’s office reported there were no injuries. The suspect was last seen returning to his residence after the shooting, prompting a broader law-enforcement response.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office deployed its SWAT team and additional resources to locate the suspect. Deputies reported that at about 9:20 p.m. the suspect was taken into custody without incident. The sheriff’s office described the firing and the initial altercation as allegations within its investigation.
The investigation remains active and ongoing with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office leading the probe.
