Gainesville woman arrested after pawn shop movie-prop handgun taken from display

A woman was arrested in Gainesville after investigators say she took a movie-prop handgun from a local pawn shop and left the store with it. According to reporting, the item taken was a Walther PPK displayed for sale and described by the owner as a prop capable of firing 8mm blank ammunition. The pawn-shop owner provided that description to responding officers.
Police allege the suspect concealed the handgun and walked out of the business; the shop owner estimated the prop’s value at about $150. Detectives could not locate the woman immediately after the reported theft; she was taken into custody several days later and booked on a felony charge of grand theft of a firearm, as listed in the arrest record.
The sequence presented by law enforcement separates allegation from confirmed detail: the owner’s characterization of the item as a movie prop and its estimated value are reported facts from the investigation, while the charge filed is the current criminal allegation and not a conviction. Agency records indicate officers investigated the reported theft, located the suspect, and completed an arrest and booking process.
At this time the case status is that criminal charges have been filed by the arresting agency. Prosecutors or the arresting agency will have to determine formal charging decisions and next steps; court records would document any subsequent filings or outcomes.
