Former Davenport Fire Chief Mark Frese Dies at 76, City Officials Announce

The Davenport Fire Department announced the death of former Fire Chief Mark Frese at his home in Davenport. Fire officials said Frese died Friday morning at age 76. The department made the announcement through its public channels, identifying Frese as a long-serving member of the Davenport fire service.
Frese joined the Davenport Fire Department in 1974 and served for more than 35 years. He rose through the ranks and was named fire chief in 2000. Records released by the department note he remained in that leadership position until retiring in 2011.
City officials publicly acknowledged Frese’s years of service. Davenport’s mayor, Jason Gordon, described his personal connection and reflected on Frese’s career and leadership with the department. There is no indication in the department’s announcement of an active criminal investigation or unresolved public-safety incident related to the death. The department reported the circumstances in a standard personnel announcement; no allegations or charges were mentioned and no further public-safety actions were detailed.
