Cass County authorities and Nebraska troopers are investigating a homicide discovered during a welfare check at an apartment complex in Fargo. Officers entered the unit after multiple attempts to contact residents failed and found a deceased adult Monday afternoon; investigators early on said they believed the death was the result of homicidal violence and that the victim and suspect knew each other.

Fargo police called to the 34th Street South area conducted the initial scene response and evidence gathering. According to charging documents filed in Cass County District Court, the death is alleged to have occurred between Sept. 24 and Sept. 25. The court information filed in Cass County charges a 42-year-old Fargo man with murder, a Class AA felony, alleging he intentionally or knowingly caused the death or acted with extreme indifference to human life.

The suspect was located and arrested after a multi-jurisdictional pursuit that began in Milford, Nebraska, and continued onto Interstate 80 toward Lincoln. Nebraska State Patrol reports the vehicle reached speeds above 100 mph, stop sticks were deployed near Waverly, and the vehicle stopped after exiting the interstate near Ashland. Troopers say the man refused commands to exit the vehicle for several minutes before being taken into custody and was initially lodged in the Lancaster County Jail.

In addition to the Cass County murder charge, Nebraska authorities have lodged local counts including reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, use of a weapon to commit a felony and terroristic threats. The Cass County District Court filing is the basis for the homicide charge; local and state agencies continue investigative and prosecutorial processes.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
